The Spotswood Public Schools are a comprehensive community public school district that serves students in prekindergarten through twelfth grade from Spotswood, in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States.
All public students from Helmetta, a non-operating district, attend the Spotswood schools, along with students from Milltown who attend Spotswood High School as part of a sending/receiving relationship with the Milltown Public Schools.[3][4] In addition to the five members from Spotswood, a single representative from each of Helmetta and Milltown serve on the district's Board of Education.[5]
As of the 2009-10 school year, the district's four schools had an enrollment of 1,836 students and 151 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 12.16. In addition to the 151 teachers the district also had 109 other staff members for a total of 260 FTEs and operated on a budget of $26,304,000, an average of $14,912 per pupil.[1]
The district is classified by the New Jersey Department of Education as being in District Factor Group "DE", the fifth highest of eight groupings. District Factor Groups organize districts statewide to allow comparison by common socioeconomic characteristics of the local districts. From lowest socioeconomic status to highest, the categories are A, B, CD, DE, FG, GH, I and J.[6]
